[OVERVIEW]
The first magical girl humanity has produced in 20,000 years - a reluctant pillar of hope. Jiao has hardcore anxiety and struggles deeply with committing to anything, grappling with the fear of cutting off options that she might later realize were better. Prone to panic under stress, but through her interactions with the space marines, develops an iron will that lets her keep a cool head under pressure and commit to her decisions.
Wholly average upbringing - two parents, no siblings. Doesn't especially excel at anything (except, it turns out, magic). Jiao would call herself a coward, because she's very stressed when dealing with high-stakes or perilous situations; however, she still does what needs doing. What she doesn't realize is that doing the hard thing even while afraid of it is the very definition of courage. Falls down a lot (metaphorically speaking), but fast to get back to her feet. Overthinks every decision, but usually makes the right call when acting on impulse.
After her best friend is corrupted by the agents of the Chaos Queen, Nanjiao mysteriously gains the power to transform into a magical girl, and purifies her of the corruption. She reluctantly pencils herself in as a provisional Hero, eventually leading a team of three in the fight against the Chaos Generals. Their adventure is complicated by the arrival of a detachment of space marines from the Galactic Empire, here from a bloody, hopeless war against Chaos that has been grinding humanity to pulp for millennia. While they initially clash due to being from different genres of story, the marines become more open to an alliance after Jiao purifies one of their comrades who had fallen to Chaos. Against all odds, an unlikely bond of trust and friendship forms between the two teams, and they face the Chaos Queen as a united front - but true Chaos is coming to Waba, and threatens to pull the planet into its galactic hellish forever war.

A Hero - in other words, a magical girl. Can transform between her normal human form and her flashy and powerful Hero form at will, although remaining transformed for too long is increasingly tiring. While transformed, her weapon is a magic staff with a yellow jewel on the end.
- Physical Augment: Faster, stronger, and tougher than a normal human. Can match a space marine for strength and beat them in speed, but lacks the armor to soak a similar level of damage. Can use martial arts with her staff, but overall, melee combat isn't her forte.
- Offensive Magic: In raw magical power capacity, the strongest of the team. Can use her staff to summon explosive orbs and thick beams of magical energy to assault opponents. These do only minor damage to normal creatures and inanimate objects, but their effectiveness against supernatural threats like Chaos is extreme.
- Healing Star: Jiao's ultimate attack. Summons a brilliant yellow sun of magic, which descends onto the enemy and consumes them in radiant light. Does no physical damage at all, but it can completely purge the corrupting influence of chaos, restoring someone to their normal state. Can only be used once per transformation, and takes some time to charge, so it's best used once the enemy is already on the back foot as a finisher. Humans caught in the blast, especially the purified target, tend to feel extremely relaxed afterwards.
